Hidden in the Arab Quarter, Haji Lane is the narrowest street in Singapore. It is a quaint little lane in the Bugis area - sometimes referred to as the old hipster area of Singapore. Bursting with charm and full of vibrant colors, the road offers lots of nice clothing boutiques and eateries.

Beyond the stores and hidden charms tucked away in random corners, Haji Lane has a very interesting history. More than 50 years ago, the street provided shelter for poor Malay families, and haji remains the term used for a Muslim man who has completed a pilgrimage to Mecca. Now, it is a brief getaway from the modernization that is prevalent throughout the rest of Singapore.

I've frequented the lane a few times during my stay here, and have built up a small list of places that I recommend visiting.

Selfie Coffee

This place is exactly what the name suggests - a chance to print a picture of your choice onto a cup of coffee. Once you walk in, all you have to do is Airdrop or text a picture of your choice to the cashier and choose a flavor of coffee. The coffee is a bit pricy at S$8.50, but for the novelty of the store and the great coffee, I would suggest going at least once. Make sure you also go up the stairs to the second floor, a room filled with beautiful decorations and cute tables where you can enjoy your drink!

I Am

You can't miss this cafe if you enter from North Bridge Road, with letters similar to the I Amsterdam sign in the Netherlands. This place is almost always packed, famous for their delicious rainbow crepe cake. Try to get a spot here if you can!

Also try out Bergs for some delicious burgers, Sticky Rice for cheap, delicious mango sticky rice, and the Meomi Cat Cafe!
